Born on 12th November 1939, Rika Bronkhorst grew up in Zastron, Free State. She passed away at the age of 84 years old.
Rika was the mother of 8, with an abundance of grandchildren and She was the matriarch of a five-generation legacy.
She passed away on 7 September 2024 at home surrounded by her children in Brakpan, Gauteng.

Our beloved mother and grandmother.
Rika Elizabeth Bronkhorst was married to Edward Christie, and seven children were born from their union. After his passing, Odette Bender was born. Later in life, she married Koos Bronkhorst, who was the great love of her life. After his passing, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.
She was a dynamic and strong woman who always put herself last for the sake of her children. She had a deep love for reading and was an absolute perfectionist — her home and her appearance were always immaculate. She was gentle, kind, and gracious in spirit.
Even at the age of 84, she still walked more than 2 kilometers almost daily, cleaned her own home, and prepared meals every day. She had a wonderful sense of humor and never judged her children, no matter what life brought their way. She never interfered in their lives and never lost her temper. Her life was a true reflection of a devoted Christian woman.
She leaves behind four generations who loved and cherished her deeply.
Our dearest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother leaves a great emptiness in our hearts, but we will forever treasure the beautiful memories she gave us.
Mommy will always live on in our hearts.
